A check on your BNG metric, before anyone else reads it.
Drop a completed statutory biodiversity metric here. You get one page back: what would
bounce it at the Planning Portal, every ▲ and ⚠ the metric itself has raised across its forty-odd tabs,
and the questions an LPA reviewer asks that the metric never flags. Drop the condition assessment
workbook beside it and the two are checked against each other.
Drop the metric workbook here
.xlsx or .xlsm · statutory metric 1.0.x and small sites metric 1.2.x
The check runs as JavaScript in this browser and nowhere else; with JavaScript off, nothing here can read the file.
This browser cannot unzip the workbook itself (it lacks DecompressionStream). Use a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox (113+) or Safari (16.4+).
Free, in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer. The check runs in this browser. Try it with the wifi off.
Optional: drop the filled condition assessment workbook too (GOV.UK Technical Annex 1, .xlsx)
Quadrat matches its sheets to the metric's parcels and says where the two documents the LPA receives disagree.

01
What would bounce it
The handful of things that make a planning officer send a metric back unread, checked first.
02
Every flag, on one page
Each ▲ and ⚠ the metric raised across its forty-odd tabs, with what it means and how to clear it.
03
What a reviewer will ask
The questions that arrive in the LPA's response if the report does not answer them first. The metric never flags these.
A Before anyone reads it
B What the metric itself is flagging
▲ is the metric's input error; ⚠ is attention required. Lookup sheets are ignored.
C What a reviewer will ask
Not flagged by the metric. Each is a question that arrives in the LPA's response if it is not answered in the report first.
D The metric against the condition sheets
Each baseline parcel in the metric matched to its condition assessment sheet by reference. Quadrat reads the result as the surveyor marked it and never re-scores a criterion; where the two files disagree it says so and picks neither.
The numbers, as the metric stores them
Read from the Headline Results sheet so the report can quote them. Quadrat does not calculate units; it copies the tool's own.
Notes
What this cannot tell you
Whether the habitats were identified correctly, whether a condition score is right, whether the baseline
date is valid, whether the mitigation hierarchy was followed, whether the plans match the parcels. Those are
the competent person's judgement and the report's job. Quadrat reads the metric's stored values; it never
calculates a unit and never overrides the statutory tool.
Then build the report tables
With a seat, Quadrat writes the BNG assessment's tables from the two files above into your own Word
report, in the browser: baseline and post-development per sheet, the headline results, the condition appendix, the
cross-check. Every cell is transcribed from the metric as it stores it; no unit is calculated, no condition re-scored.
